Compatibility Guidelines

SECTION 1

Purpose

The purpose of these guidelines is to help creators describe compatibility with TSR Ltd systems in a way that is informative, accurate and respectful of TSR Ltd intellectual property.

These guidelines support a healthy publishing ecosystem by allowing compatible products to identify the systems they work with while ensuring consumers are not misled into believing such products are official TSR Ltd publications.

SECTION 2

What Does Compatibility Mean?

A compatible product is an independently created work that is designed to function alongside a TSR Ltd game system without being published, sponsored or endorsed by TSR Ltd.

Compatibility does not grant ownership of TSR Ltd intellectual property, trademarks or Product Identity, nor does it create any partnership or commercial relationship with TSR Ltd unless agreed separately in writing.

SECTION 3

Approved Compatibility Statements

Creators may accurately describe their products as being compatible with TSR Ltd game systems provided that the statement is truthful, not misleading and does not imply official approval, sponsorship or endorsement.

Examples of acceptable compatibility statements include:

• Compatible with AD&D Revived.
• Designed for use with the AD&D Revived role-playing game.
• An unofficial adventure compatible with AD&D Revived.
• A third-party supplement for use with AD&D Revived.

Compatibility statements should appear in a manner that is clear, factual and secondary to the creator's own product branding.

SECTION 4

Logos & Branding

TSR Ltd logos, trademarks and official branding are protected intellectual property.

Unless expressly authorised in writing by TSR Ltd, creators must not:

• Use the TSR Ltd company logo.
• Copy official cover layouts or trade dress.
• Use official product artwork.
• Modify TSR Ltd logos or branding assets.
• Create branding likely to cause consumer confusion.

Where TSR Ltd publishes official compatibility badges or branding assets, those materials must be used only in accordance with the accompanying branding guidance.

SECTION 5

Product Identity

Product Identity remains the exclusive property of TSR Ltd and is not licensed through these Compatibility Guidelines.

Examples of Product Identity include:

• TSR Ltd trademarks and registered marks.
• Official logos and branding.
• Characters and named personalities.
• Campaign settings and unique locations.
• Storylines and narrative content.
• Artwork, illustrations and graphic assets.

Only material specifically designated as Open Game Content under the applicable TSR Ltd licence may be used without additional written permission.

SECTION 6

Marketing & Advertising

Marketing materials should accurately describe compatible products without implying they are official TSR Ltd publications.

Creators should:

• Prominently display their own publisher name.
• Clearly identify products as unofficial.
• Use compatibility statements responsibly.
• Avoid misleading titles or promotional claims.
• Provide accurate attribution where required.

Advertising must comply with applicable consumer protection legislation, including the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

SECTION 7

Examples

The following examples illustrate acceptable and unacceptable use of compatibility statements.

Acceptable

• "An unofficial adventure compatible with AD&D Revived."
• "Designed for use with the AD&D Revived role-playing game."
• "Requires the AD&D Revived core rules to play."

Not Acceptable

• "Official TSR Ltd Adventure."
• "Approved by TSR Ltd."
• "The new TSR Ltd campaign setting."
• Displaying TSR Ltd logos without permission.
• Using official cover artwork on third-party products.

When in doubt, creators should choose wording that informs customers about compatibility while making it immediately clear that the publication is an independent third-party product.

SECTION 8

Enforcement

TSR Ltd reserves the right to request the correction, modification or removal of any compatibility statement, branding or promotional material that breaches these guidelines or infringes TSR Ltd intellectual property.

Where appropriate, TSR Ltd may contact creators to resolve issues before taking further action. Serious or repeated breaches may result in the withdrawal of permissions, termination of applicable licences or legal action where necessary to protect TSR Ltd intellectual property.

Compliance with these guidelines helps maintain a clear distinction between official TSR Ltd publications and independently created compatible products, benefiting both creators and the wider tabletop role-playing community.

SECTION 9

Governing Law

These Compatibility Guidelines shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes relating to these guidelines shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales unless otherwise required by applicable law.

Nothing contained within these guidelines limits the legal rights or remedies available to TSR Ltd under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, the Trade Marks Act 1994, the Companies Act 2006 or any other applicable legislation.
